Sri Lanka is a beautiful island country in South Asia located in the Indian Ocean, just 833 miles from the Indian subcontinent. Twenty two million people live in Sri Lanka, with 800,000 living in the capital of Colombo.

Sri Lanka has faced many difficulties. On April 21, 2019 Easter Sunday, suicide Islamic extremists (ISIS) killed more than 250 worshipers and injured hundreds more in a coordinated attack on three Catholic churches in Colombo and two other cities. In the 2004 tsunami over 100,000 people lost their lives and over 1 million were forced to leave their homes. The average yearly income per person is $1,972 (4% of USA).

70% of Sri Lanka is Buddhist, which is the national religion and, as such, is protected and promoted. 12% are Hindu. 8% are Muslim and 2% are Evangelical Christian. Freedom of religion is stated by law but anti-conversion initiatives and sporadic violence against Christians occur primarily as a result of radical extreme Buddhist groups. Persecution comes in waves, fueled by spirits and demonic powers.

In the midst of these challenging circumstances, God is doing something very exciting in Sri Lanka. There are over 14,000 villages without a house church and have no Christian witness. God is greatly at work in these rural areas where tens of thousands of unreached people live. An exciting house church movement is rising up that is reaching many for Christ. What a thrill to support these pioneer church planters who have such a passion to reach Sri Lanka for Christ.

Support a Sri Lankan Church Planting Pastor

Ramesh is one of the courageous church planters who is dedicated to reaching Sri Lanka with the gospel. All the church planters you support are going into completely unreached villages that are 100% Buddhist. Ramesh has recently planted 5 house churches and his goal is to plant a total of 49 house churches to reach his area for Christ. Let's please be praying for Ramesh and all the church planters as they are bringing the light of Jesus into these unreached areas.
